Forbes: The Richest Countries of the World

The popular journal Forbes published the list of the richest countries of the world. The evaluation is done based on GDP per capita. GDP per capita is calculated by dividing GDP into the population of a country.
According to Forbes, the richest country of the world is Qatar, where the GDP per capita is $88,000. Qatar is a rich oil country in Middle East. According to the 2010 census in Qatar, the population there is 1,853,563. The main reason that Qatar is listed as the richest country of the world is the low population. In 2011 the GDP in Qatar was $194,270 billion. Just for comparison, the GDP of the USA for the same year was $15,065 trillion. Though, the USA is only the seventh richest country.
The second richest country, according to Forbes, is Luxemburg, with $81,000 GDP per capita. And the third one is Singapore.
If you find your country in this list, ask yourself, if you really live in the richest country of the world, or it is just an economic trick.

  1. Nice blog man, didn't know you have one!
Well, I also wonder why they excluded Lichtenstein from the list; this smallass country has a GDP per capita at least as big as that of Luxembourg.

  2. Thanks Max.
You are right, the GDP per capita of Lichtenstein is $95,000: the highest one. Probably the reason is that the population of this country is 36,010(haha, like Cleveland)
